Privacy notice
How Serena handles the personal data it receives through this website, under Costa Rica's Law 8968 on the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of their Personal Data and its regulations (Executive Decree 37554-JP).
In short
- We use your data only to answer the request you send us and, if you ask for it, to send you news.
- We don't ask for health information, children's data, documents or income information.
- Some of the site's providers store data outside Costa Rica, which is why we ask for your consent before answering an inquiry.
- You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, or withdraw your consent, free of charge.
- This site doesn't use analytics or advertising cookies.
- To delete your app account, go to your profile and choose “Delete Account.”

Who is responsible for your data
The controller of the database created through this site's forms is Serena. Its identification details are:
- Legal name

While these details are being confirmed, you can exercise your rights using the form at the end of this page.
What data we receive and why
We only receive the data you type into this site's forms. Every form asks for your name and email, and optionally your phone number and a message (the message is required for “Help with the app or a service,” so we know what happened), plus how you'd prefer we reply. Depending on the request type, we ask for a few more details:

Each submission also records the site language, the page you wrote from, the date, and the version of this notice you accepted.
Data we don't ask for
This site doesn't ask for:
- Health information: diagnoses, medications, disabilities or other medical details.
- Information about children or teenagers, such as their name or date of birth.
- Documents, such as an ID card or a criminal record certificate. Documents for professionals joining Serena are not requested through this site.
- Income, socioeconomic status, religion, origin, political opinions or information about sex life.
If you include any of this by mistake in a message, you can ask us to delete it.
Required and optional data
Each form marks the fields you can leave blank as “optional.” We need the rest—for example, your name, your email and, for inquiries, your acceptance of this notice—to reply: if you don't provide them, we won't be able to handle your request this way. A request about your data (section 07) doesn't ask you to accept anything.
Who receives your data
- The Serena team that handles each type of request.
- The technology providers that run the site on Serena's behalf: the site's hosting and forms service (Netlify, in the United States) and Serena's email service (to be confirmed).
These providers process the data on Serena's behalf, and Serena remains responsible for it.
Data outside Costa Rica
Some of these providers store information on servers outside Costa Rica, for example in the United States. That's why, before you send an inquiry, we ask for your express consent, as Law 8968 requires. Requests to exercise your rights don't ask for it: their data is used only to handle them and keep a record of them.
Your rights and how to use them
You can exercise these rights at any time:
- Access: find out what data we hold about you and how we use it.
- Rectification: correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your data.
- Withdrawal: withdraw the consent you gave, including consent to receive news.
To do so, use the form at the end of this page: it doesn't ask you to accept any new processing or to sign up for anything. It's free of charge, and the law sets a response period of five business days. If we need to confirm your identity, we'll ask through a private channel: please don't send documents through the form.
If you believe we didn't handle your request properly, you can contact Costa Rica's Data Protection Agency (PRODHAB).
How long we keep data
We keep the data from each request only as long as needed to handle it and follow up, and news subscriptions until you unsubscribe. The exact periods for each request type have not been set yet.
Children and teenagers
This site's forms are meant for adults. We don't ask for information about children or teenagers: if you're looking for care for them, just tell us the type of care you need.
Cookies and analytics
Today this site doesn't use analytics or advertising cookies, or tracking pixels.
It does store in your browser, without personal data, your language preference and, during your visit, some site usage details (for example, the request type you sent, so we can show you the right confirmation). You can clear them in your browser settings.
Like any website, the hosting service may log technical connection data, such as your IP address, for security reasons.
If an analytics tool that uses cookies is ever turned on, we'll ask for your permission first and update this notice.
How we protect data
The site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), we only ask for the data we need, and access to requests is limited to the team that handles them. No system is infallible, which is why we'd rather not receive data we don't need.
The Serena app and Sertify
This notice only covers the data we receive through this website. It doesn't describe how data is handled inside the Serena app or on Sertify, Serena's online training platform.
Deleting your app account
You can delete your account from the app (its interface is in English today):
Open the app
Sign in to your account.
Go to your profile
From the app's bottom bar.
Choose “Delete Account”
Then confirm.
If you can't do it from the app, write to us using the form on this page and choose “Delete my app account”: we'll help you.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we'll publish the new version on this page with its date. Each form records the version of the notice you accepted.
